This year, 2025, we will walk the Jura Crest trail. We will extend it by starting further to the east, in Germany, and have several days before we reach the start of the trail, which works its way gradually SW to Nyon on Lake Geneva. (We had hoped to carry on south to Chamonix, but one of the refuges doesn’t open until mid June)

I started this blog in 2017 to record my walk on the GR5, from Hook of Holland, southwards to Nice. Various other long distance walks followed, all carefully documented. I then (in 2023) managed to break my website, so am now rebuilding it.
This year we will walk the GR10 through the Pyrenees. New posts will appear on the right, and can also be found via the drop-down menus.
The Alpe-Adria pages, walked in 2023, are correct.
The Caribbean pages are correct.
I’m now working on the GR5 pages.
Why graniteunderfoot? That’s part of quotation by Robert Louis Stevenson:
“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move; to feel the needs and hitches of our life more nearly; to come down off this feather-bed of civilization, and find the globe granite underfoot and strewn with cutting flints.”
